This was, in my opinion, the best sci-fi film to be released in years. Even with Episode I coming out the same year, The Matrix shot every film in it's genre out of the water with really innovative special effects, a fresh plot line (Instead of an Evil Empire reminiscent of the Cold war Era coming to get us, it is Microsoft Windows on crack that enslaves humanity), and a somewhat decent acting job by Keanu Reeves. Laurnece Fishburne is the man, however, because he turns the character of Morpheous into a different kind of mentor (no sawed off green elf spewing out riddles here) who doesn't say cool things, he does them as well.

If you haven't seen this film, I would highly suggest a rental sometime soon. Even if your not into the sci-fi genre of flicks, this film offers so much more than just futuristic/apocoliptic Experience. Its mysterious in a lot of ways and has to be seen at least twice to pick out the little details.
